All You Need to Know About Ghana Movie Awards, How and When It Started!!!

The Ghana Movie Awards was established in 2010 by movie director, Fred Nuamah with the sole aim of celebrating and recognizing Ghanaian actresses and actors working hard to put Ghana on the map.
So far it has been good except that for the past two years it has not been held as a result of the collapse of the movie industry and other reasons.
On September 25, 2010, the first ever Ghana Movie Awards was held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) where the likes of Majid Michel, Van Vicker, Eddy Nartey, Ruffy Samuel, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah and others were nominated in various categories.
Ghana Movie Awards 2011 also saw some Kumawood actors and actresses making the tall list of nominees in various categories and it continued until 2016 where the scheme hit a ‘huge financial iceberg’ making it very difficult for its organisation.
Zylofon Media also came in somewhere in 2017 and took over the Ghana Movie Awards paying a reported amount of $5 million to the CEO, Fred Nuamah.
But Zylofon Media for whatever reasons best known to them cancelled the contract and announced Zylofon Movie Awards slated to take place in 2019.
The 2018 Ghana Movie Awards nomination came as a surprise to movie lovers as Ghanaian controversial Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has been nominated in the Best Lead Actor category obviously for his role in the popular TV comedy series, “Kejetia Vrs Makola, The Trial of Shatta Wale”.
The 2018 Ghana Movie Awards has been slated for December 23, 2018, at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra and the Tamale movie, Azali leads with 16 nominations.
